My home from home in Manchester was Night & Day cafe. On a dirty street full of music with PJ Bells (now Matt & Phreds), John Clarks’ sax shop, and Band on the Wall just around the corner. I sauntered into the kitchen-cum-rehearsal room and was startled by Clive Hunte rehearsing his band. Their groove was superb and immediately an unrelated melody sprung into my head. I rushed out to a table and sketched it down on a napkin. 20 years later I found the chords.
